Set in Nazi-occupied Paris in 1942, Jewish jeweller Joseph Haffmann makes a desperate deal with his employee, Pierre. Ownership of the jewellery shop in exchange for a hide-out from the Nazis. Pierre accepts but insists that Joseph enters an unusual arrangement with his wife, Isabelle.
A Matisse painting, an art loving Nazi officer and his flamboyant wife complicate matters further for Pierre, Isabelle and Joseph, who find themselves pushed to the brink.
