Review: The Mousetrap

Written by Dame Agatha Christie, the sensational thriller 'The Mousetrap' is back in Liverpool gripping audiences for another year. The show first opened back in 1952 and since, it has been performed continuously for 66 years and has continued to tour since 2012. This week, the show has been brought to Liverpool and thankfully we were there to witness it…

The story starts with a murder. It’s announced via the wireless a lady is has been killed in London. This seemingly irrelevant information is merely a topic of conversation at Monkswell Manor, which is a new countryside guest house ran by Mollie (Harriet Hare) and Giles Ralston (Nick Biadon). Here, a unique mix of guests arrive, only to quickly find themselves cut off from civilisation due to the snow. The atmosphere quickly changes when Sargent Trotter arrives after discovering a link between the London murder and Monkswell Manor and it isn’t long before everyone appears to have something to hide and could either be the murderer or the next victim.

The whole cast were equally brilliant and as a group ensured the audience joined them on this enthralling journey. Lewis Chandler as Christopher Wren was endearing in his role as the somewhat deranged youth. Gwyneth Strong as Mrs. Boyle embodied the irritating guest perfectly. David Alcock as Mr. Paravicini, was both humorous and sketchy which was thoroughly entertaining to watch.   

At the end of the performance, the audience is traditionally sworn to secrecy and there is only one way to join this elite club...

It’s wonderful to know that this timeless show still has the same impact on audiences today and we highly recommend this is a show is a must see for all.
