Last night we took a flight to Neverland to see Liverpool Empire theatres Peter Pan panto packed with jaw-dropping flying, a ship full of magic and fairy dust and barrel loads of laughter.
Born and Bred Liverpool comedian Tony Maudsley is best known for playing Kenneth DuBeke in the ITV comedy series Benidorm but this Christmas he has ditched the sun cream and returned to windy Liverpool to star in Peter Pan at The Liverpool Empire theatre. He plays Cutlass Kenneth the Cabin Boy (a spin-off of his popular Benidorm character) and his humour is so perfectly timed and executed.
He is joined by fellow Benidorm star Asa Elliot (Tiger Billy), much-loved Liverpool television and stage actor Louis Emerick (Captain Hook) as well as Empire favourite funny man John Evans as Smee, with X Factor finalist Niki Evans providing the glitz, glamour and fantastic voice as the Magical Mermaid. Together they help make the story of Peter Pan their own which is sure to delight and amaze Liverpool Audiences night after night!
Wendy (Cristina Hoey), Peter Pan (Adam McCoy) and Tinkerbell (Georgie Ashford) were all spectacular actors and definitely left me believing in fairies by the end of the night! But a special well done needs to go to the young actors from Liverpool Empire Juvenile Ensemble who all played their parts so accurately, especially the very talented boys who played John and Michael Darling.
Not only is the performance packed with a star-studded cast there are also some amazing special effects thrown in and the moment when peter pan glides above the stage has everyone in the audience mesmerised. Whilst the magical costumes and stage sets only add to the spectacle.
Tom Maudsley, the star of the show, when asked what makes a great panto said, ‘a great audience, pace, fun, lots of music, lots of dancing and a good cast’ and in our opinion Peter Pan definitely delivered!
This high flying pantomime adventure is running until 29th December.
