Happy World Theatre Day! We thought we’d take
some time to appreciate the beautiful Theatres that the UK has! Here’s a
selection of our favourites and why you must visit them at one point in your
life:
Grand Theatre Blackpool
Why visit?
The Grand was designed by the famous
Victorian theatre architect Frank Matcham and was opened in 1894. Whether you
want drama, dance shows, laughs, thrills or family friendly entertainment, The
Grand Theatre has the perfect show for you. The Grand recently celebrated it's
125th anniversary and is still as spectacular as ever.
Palace Theatre Manchester
Why visit?
The Palace Theatre is one of
Manchester's premier, live entertainment venues located in the heart of the
city. In the late 1970’s the Palace Theatre underwent a major refurbishment,
extending the stage and dressing room facilities to accommodate such
high-profile companies as the Covent Garden Opera and the Kirov Ballet and restoring
the auditorium and Front of House facilities to their Edwardian splendor.
Chronicling its great history, the Palace Theatre has an extensive programme
archive, a 1,000 Hall of Fame named supplement, detailed prime source material
from the 1890’s and a thirty-page history of the theatre.
Kings Theatre Edinburgh
Why visit?
Following its recent refurbishment, the
venue is even more majestic and imposing than ever. The foyer is wonderfully
ornate with a semi-art nouveau feel, adding to a sense of occasion and edginess
you might not usually associate with Edinburgh.
The Old Vic London
Why visit?
The Old Vic London is a people’s theatre
and gives a real sense of what Victorian theatre was like while managing to
still feel young, energetic and experimental.
London Coliseum
Why visit?
The Coliseum Theatre in London’s West End,
popularly known as London Coliseum, is on St Martin’s Lane, in the City of
Westminster. Widely viewed as London’s largest and best-equipped theatres, the
Coliseum has hosted two Royal Variety Performances, with HRH the Prince of
Wales being the royal guest.
